Apex III 4-way tower speakers

The biggest-sounding main channel speakers at even twice the price!

More low-end frequency response than any other front channel speaker in its price range, yet it retains vocal clarity, throws an ultra-wide sound stage and provides accurate, pin-point imaging with an overall smooth balance. With open midrange and solid bass down to 26 Hz, the Apex III yields impressive dynamics with exceptional transparency and very good off-axis behaviour. Matched with an Apex C center channel speaker, you can have what amounts to the ultimate front speaker set-up in your 2-channel or home theatre room.

Frequency range

15 Hz – 40 kHz · log scale
−3 dB point at 24 Hz; F10 at 17 Hz; port tuned to 26 Hz; crossover at 500 Hz and 4.5 kHz; upper limit 35 kHz.

Construction

  • Midrange drivers treated with the EnABL process
  • RA104.5 ribbon tweeter
  • Rear-firing full-range driver for an adjustable midrange image
  • Solen capacitors with metal oxide resistors, silver wire and foil 16 g inductors; all crossover parts are hand measured and matched in pairs
  • Hand-assembled crossover: no PCB plastic boards are used for our crossover boards
  • Sonicap Gen II by-pass capacitors on each capacitor value
  • RAW ICE acoustic absorption and damping material installed
  • QED Silver Anniversary wire for the internal wiring
  • Cardas lead-free silver solder (RoHS compliant)
  • 1.25" CNC front baffles, 3/4" cabinet construction with bracing every 6"
  • Handcrafted cabinet, finished with real wood veneers hand selected in matched pairs
  • Hand-rubbed lacquer finish
  • Sound Fusion adjustable spikes as standard equipment

Finish

We apply a labour-intensive, multi-layered (10 coats!) finish, hand-polished to a vivid sheen that brings out the most intricate details of our standard real wood veneers. Assembled by hand, finished by hand, applied by hand: only the highest quality control standards are maintained from start to finish.

With Gen II Sonicap by-pass capacitors used in the Apex III, even the most discerning audiophile's taste for quality parts will be satisfied. And the level of quality doesn't stop inside the enclosure: with Sound Fusion adjustable spikes as standard equipment, the Apex III reaches an overall level of component quality worthy of speakers at twice the price.

Each Apex III weighs about 160 lb, so every pair travelled in wooden crates.

Measured in room

In-room response of the Apex II, with the microphone 40" off the floor at a distance of 65" from the speaker, on tweeter axis and 45 degrees off axis horizontally.

Sensitivity falls off slowly and evenly across the band off axis, with less than 10 dB of upper-end roll-off from the tweeter at 20 kHz at 45 degrees off axis.
